ready-set-go 'money'*

Are you ready for a financial coaching journey designed to get you peace of your financial mind in 3 months?
Answer the following questions with true or false:
True  False I know my current net worth (that is the current value of the assets I have minus the liabilities I owe.)
True  False I have a solid grasp of what my fixed monthly overhead is, including property taxes and all forms of insurance.
True  False I know how much life insurance I carry. I know exactly what the dental benefits are, how much cash value there is in the policy (if any), and what rate the money is earning (if applicable).
True  False I have reviewed my life insurance policy sometime in the last 12 to 24 months and am comfortable that I am paying a competitive rate in today's insurance market.
True  False I know the current value of my home, the size of my mortgage, the interest rate on the mortgage, and how much equity I have in my home. I also know the length of my mortgage-payment schedule and how much it would cost per month to pay down the mortgage in half the time.
True  False I know how much rent I pay, when my lease expires, how much of a security deposit I gave the landlord, and what renewal rights I have.
True  False I know what type of homeowner's or renter's insurance I have and what the deductibles are. I know whether or not my policy would provide me with 'today's replacement cost', or actual cash value, if my home and/or property were destroyed or stolen.
True  False I know the nature and size of all my investments, including cash, checking accounts, saving accounts, money market accounts, CD's, Treasury bills, saving bonds, mutual funds, annuities, stocks and bonds, real estate investments, and collectibles such as stamps, coins, artwork, etc. I also know where all the relevant paperwork is kept.
True  False I know the annualized returns of all the above mentioned investments.
True  False I know the current value of all of my retirement accounts, including 401 (k) plans, 403 (b) plans, IRAs, Roth IRAs, SEP-IRAs, Keogh plans, company pension plans, etc. I know where the statements for these accounts are kept and I have a solid grasp of how all  my accounts performed last year.
True  False I know what percentage of my income (or the total with my partner) I am saving.
True  False I know how much I am putting into my retirement account, whether that amounts to the maximum allowable contribution, whether my employer is making matching contributions, and what my vesting schedule is.
True  False I know how much money I will be getting from Social Security when I retire, and what my pension benefits (if any) will be.
True  False I know whether or not I have a living will or living trust, what its provisions are, and how up-to-date it is.
True  False I know whether my income would be protected by disability insurance should I (or my partner) become unable to work. If I do have disability insurance, I know the amount of the coverage, when the benefits would start, and whether they would be taxable. If I don't have disability insurance, I know why I don't.
True  False (If applicable) I know what my partner's wishes are regarding medical treatment (including being kept alive by artificial means) in the event he/she falls seriously ill or is seriously injured. I know whether or not our will includes a valid power of attorney covering such situations. I also know how my partner feels about being an organ donor.
True  False I have a financial advisor and I like him/her. He/she is a true partner in my financial growth. I've also done me due diligence on his/her credentials and checked out his/her background on the NASD website, www.nasd.com
True  False I'm comfortable with my knowledge of the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001. I know that there were more than 400 new tax regulations created by this law, and I'm using some of them to save money and legally pay less in taxes.

Give yourself one point for every time you answered 'True', and zero for every time you answered 'false'.

16-18 points:
Great job! You obviously have a good grasp of the state or your finances.

9-13 points:
You're not completely in the dark, but your knowledge is inadequate in some important areas.

under 8 points:
Your chances of being hurt financially because of inadequate knowledge are enormous. You need to learn how to protect yourself against future financial disaster.
