    Life Entrepreneurs

Last month I was writing about shifting paradigms and how we need to solve problems from a higher level of consciousness. Old paradigms such as the linear progression of school, college, and career don't seem to work anymore. Many of my clients get to the point where the typical 9-5 corporate job in a hierarchical organization doesn't work for them any longer. Much of my coaching is around the transition

I recently came across a book called "Life Entrepreneurs - Ordinary People Creating Extraordinary Lives" by Christopher Gergen and Gregg Vanourek (see link below).

According to the authors, "people are looking for opportunity, challenge, and the chance to develop their talents, achieve success, and make an impact. But they are also looking for a rich home life, rewarding friendships, an active lifestyle and deeper fulfillment. Life entrepreneurs are able to thrive in all these realms by proactively taking the following steps:

    Discovering Core Identity
    Awakening the Opportunity
    Envisioning the Future
    Developing Goals and Strategies
    Building Healthy Support Systems
Taking Action and Making a Difference
    Embracing Renewal and Reinvention"

I agree with all of these steps. The challenge lies in following through with all of these steps on a daily basis, when challenges get in the way. Being a life entrepreneur requires being proactive and being disciplined, otherwise we either don't even get started or we get sidetracked - and distractions are everywhere. Above all it requires us to really know who we are and being willing to show up to our own life. It

The book gives a good foundation of what areas to look at. The stories cited are compelling and inspiring. And yet a book doesn't give you a chance to talk through your thoughts, feelings, your concerns and desires, your inner most gremlins. That's why I love being a coach: I provide the space for my clients to think things through, to learn and gain perspective, to hear the truth. I give the opportunity to be

    Book Recommendation

Life Entrepreneurs: Ordinary People Creating Extraordinary Lives
by Christopher Gergen and Gregg Vanourek

    Description:

"An inspirational and practical guide for anyone who wants to incorporate the dynamic skills of entrepreneurs into their own lives and work.

A new generation of "life entrepreneurs" is emerging: people who apply their vision, talents, creativity, and energy not only to their work but to their entire lives, changing the world for themselves and those around them. In this book, successful entrepreneurs Christopher Gergen and Gregg Vanourek draw on numerous interviews with fifty-five leading entrepreneurs worldwide as well as the wisdom of multiple thought leaders to provide vivid examples, moving vignettes, concrete frameworks, and practical strategies for revving up our work and play through entrepreneurial leadership. This book starts by providing strategies for integrating life, work, and purpose and ends by capturing the implications of the current entrepreneurial boom for our workplaces, learning institutions, communities, and families."
